The Old Downtown Carrollton area features a gazebo in the center square surrounded by antique and craft shops. Carrollton is just minutes away from Lake Lewisville, which offers year-round recreation, boating and fishing. With more than 1,200 acres of parks and playgrounds, Carrollton takes full advantage of its rolling topography.   Don't forget to take a spin over to the State Historical Marker site of A. W. Perry Homestead Museum. It is located west of Josey on Perry Road. It is worth a visit. And, for a bit of history keep in mind that Carrollton's first settlers arrived in the early 1840s and that the city received its name from settlers who came from Carrollton, Illinois.   Carrollton has many activities during the year. Check out the Carrollton City Page for more info. Usually in July there is the 4th of July extravaganza also, and info on local highlights of the year, featuring an arts, crafts, food, rides and other entertainment. Recreational facilities include Sandy Lake Amusement Park, three public golf courses, hike and bike trails and lighted sports complexes.   Newest developments stretch northward toward Lewisville and Denton with rolling acres of horse ranches and the playgrounds of Lake Lewisville. Despite the acres of undeveloped land available for new residential and commercial growth, the downtown square anchors a city of historic charm and small-town enchantment to this progressive, metropolitan suburb. |
