Coppell is definitely a growing city in the country. The many parks, nearby lakes, quiet tree-lined streets and friendly attitude among the residents are just a few of the reasons for the area’s recent and ever-continuing development. As little as 12 years ago most folks had never heard of Coppell, and those who had didn’t think about it much. In 1980 it was just a quiet little town of 3,826; then the fickle finger of development trends began to pint Coppell’s way. One-third of the city was set aside for residential development and, with a nod to the need to a commercial tax base, another third was set aside for commercial use which is experiencing a flood to corporate relocations. It’s the final third that may make Coppell one of the eminently liveable cities in the coming century, having been set aside for parks, jogging trails, playgrounds and Riverchase golf course. That same foresightness applies to the school system. Enrollment has been growing about 15 percent each year since the mid 1980s. In 1989 the school district built and opened a new $17 million high school complex with a 6,000-seat Astroturfed stadium. Coppell is already receiving national recognition for ite school system, and more than 80 percent of last years graduating class have gone on to college. This excellent school system presently includes onr high school, two middle schools and nine elementary schools plus one new middle school to be constructed later. | |
