Chartered in 1873 and named after E.H. Richardson, who built the railroad from Dallas to Denton, Richardson was ushered into the electronic age by Collins Radio in The early 1950's. Now Richardson is home to Texas Instruments, MCI, Northern Telecom and Fujitsu. With close to 500 high tech firms in the city, it’s no wonder city officials have dubbed it "Telecom Corridor." Along with high tech, Richardson touts one of he best public school districts in the greater Dallas area. The RISD has been recognized by the US Department of Education, the American Federation of Teachers and the Institute for Responsive Education as one of the top 25 school districts in the United States. Richardson has homes and apartments in virtually every price range. The largest block of land set aside for development is Breckinridge, with a 375-acre park stone bridges, waterways and bike trails and as rural a setting as one might desire. Most residents live within half a mile of one of 27 city parks. The City has a total of 1,104 acres of park space, including soccer and baseball fields that cater to area leagues. Richardson proudly claims its own symphony orchestra and ballet troupe, as well as a children’s theater and the Richardson Community Band. |
